To Benefit Students Bound for College or Trade School
Sherman L. Paxton and his wife June S. Paxton, both now deceased, established through their estate a generous endowment fund to benefit Elon Homes and Schools for Children students who have graduated from high school. Their wish was to help dedicated students who need financial assistance to further their education beyond high school. Specifically the trust includes the following provisions:
- Students must be in the pursuit of a college degree or trade school degree.
- Students must take into consideration other sources of financial aid.
- Students must be under 22 years old.
- Graduate school expenses are not included.
In addition to the above provisions of the trust:
- Preference is given to graduating seniors of Kennedy Charter Public School or clients of Elon Homes and Schools for Children
- Preference is also given to students who have received this grant in the past
Stipends are limited to $1000 per student for the 2009-2010 school year.
To apply for the grant:
- Prepare a letter of request to Dr. Frederick G. Grosse, President of Elon Homes for Children.
- Arrange for an interview with Dr. Grosse.
- Provide a budget including sources of additional financial aid.
- Provide proof of enrollment each year.
- Submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school administrator.
Mr. and Mrs. Paxton were wonderful people who shared generously of their time, talents and financial resources. Their gift has already assisted several Elon Homes students. The Financial Aid Committee is responsible for making decisions about financial aid. Decisions will be based on funds available, need, and student effort and potential for success.
